Harry Hearod, 93, formerly of Canadian, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at a local nursing center. Born November 3, 1920 in Canadian, Oklahoma to Joe and Minnie Sparks Hearod, he attended school at Canadian and was a longtime member of the Canadian Methodist Church. He lived the majority of his life in the Canadian and Crowder area and also lived three years in Stidham, Oklahoma. Harry farmed and ranched in the Canadian, Crowder, and Indianola areas and was an avid hunter and gardener.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: Bill Hearod of McAlester, Harold Hearod of McAlester, Minnie Crenshaw of McAlester, Brenda Grisby of Muskogee, JoAnn Whitfield of Coweta, Arty Joe Hearod of Holdenville, Douglas Hearod of Holdenville, Charles Hearod of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kay Hearod of Eufaula; and several great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe & Minnie Hearod; 3 brothers & sisters-in-law: Joe & Pete Hearod, Harold & Rachel Hearod, and Royal & Christine Hearod; a niece: Dorothy Ketchum; and a great-nephew: Kendall Ketchum. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, at Canadian Methodist Church with Rev. Sherry Heath officiating. Interment will be at Canadian Masonic Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be great-nephews: Billy Hearod, Kevin Hearod, Monty Hearod, Danny Ketchum, Neil Ketchum, Billy Ketchum, and Kyle Whitfield. The family requests memorials be made to the Canadian United Methodist Church.
