When David Lowery was a small child, he accompanied his father, Jeremiah Lowery, to Texas. Jeremiah, who was widowed, later remarried and had four more children. Family legend has it that Jeremiah Lowery traded the oxen and coveed wagon in which the family arrived in Texas for a land grant in the Mountain Springs area northwest of Pilot Point. The Lowerys were farmers and had 105 acres of land near the present site of Lake Ray Roberts. The land stayed in the family until 1956, when 100 signatures of Lowery descendants were required on the title to sell the property. David Lowery married Arceno Dillon in the early 1890's. The couple had six
children: Calvin, Jerry, Harper, Carvin "Pete" and Claude. Opal Lowery Jentgen, their only daughter was born in July, 1908.
