Sharon L. Houston-Hunter was born on May 19, 1946 to Henry and Marion Houston. She departed this life on February 16, 2010 suddenly at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. Sharon was raised in Newark and attended Newark and East Orange public schools. She graduated from East Orange High School in 1963 and accepted a position as a consultant at Dun & Bradstreet. During the sixties and early seventies, Sharon modeled. She was featured in Lillian Hamilton's Society Unlimited fashion shows. In 1970, she represented the Ballantine Brewing Company on their float in the Miss America Parade in Atlantic City. A lover of jazz, Sharon worked in several premier jazz clubs in Newark and East Orange before beginning her 25-year career as a salesperson at Fedway Associates. Sharon's hobbies included interior decorating, motorcycling and catering. She also traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and the United States. Sharon loved to help all people, but she was especially endeared to her grandchildren. Actively involved in their education and extracurricular activities, Sharon would often get out of her bed to assist them even when she did not feel well. She loved them with all her heart! Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marion Houston and brother, Henry Houston, Jr. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Holiday Hankerson and her husband Jeffery; and Jason Hunter and his wife, Natasha; grandchildren, Jeffery, Alana, Sarah, Javon and Jason, Jr.; godson Sage Jefferson; sisters Carol Rutledge and her husband, Gordon and Jill Taylor and her husband, Marcus, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
