O. S. Chapin, 75, of St. 4 Garden Apartments, vice-president of the North Continental Gas and Oil Corporation, Calgary, died Tuesday in Holy Cross hospital. Mr. Chapin was a well-known oldtimer, having lived in Calgary 45 years.
Born in Wisconsin, Mr. Chapin received his education in the United States and came to Calgary in 1903. Four years later he founded the Chapin Co. which eventually sold out to the Motor Car Supply Co. of Canada Ltd. with Mr. Chapin remaining as president. He later left Motor Car Supply to become associated with the oil corporation.
He was one of the original members of the board of governors of Mount Royal College and a close friend of the late Dr. G. W. Kerby, founder of the college. Mr. Chapin was vice-president of the board for a number of years. He was also an original member of the 14 Oldtime Salesmen's Association and a past grand councillor of the United Commercial Travelers.
Mr. Chapin is survived by his wife, Ruby Scott; one daughter, Mrs. W. P. (Miriam) Adams; one son, Oris Sidney Chapin Jr., of Calgary; two brothers, Arthur in Oregon and Earl in Michigan.
