Laverne Akery

Laverne B. Akery was born January 29, 1933 in Maries County, to Henry Clyde Burns and Mary Ellen Roberson Burns and died Tuesday Sept. 28, 1999 at her home in rural Dixon.

She was a lifelong resident of rural Dixon, having lived on a farm most of her life. She had been employed at the Dixon Shoe Factory for over 25 years and recently became the Care Coordinator and secretary for the Crocker Senior Center. She was a devoted wife and mother and had cared for her invalid husband Dennis for 5 years prior to his death.

Laverne is survived by five children, Sharon Sparks and husband Dale of Wentzville, Bill Akery and wife Peggy of Union, Larry Akery, Steve Akery and wife Cindy, Darryl Akery and wife Debbie, all of Dixon; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Heath, Brian, Stephanie, Shawn, Shane, Cassandra, Brittany, Whitney, and Taylor and special friend Charles Martin.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon, with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.
