Doris was born April 15, 1924, in Shallmar, MD, the daughter of the late Baxter Clarence and Ora Oryne (Dellinger) Kimble. Her husband, Clyde Wheeler; daughter, Dr. Macel M. Wheeler; brothers, Carl, Hugh Alton, and Keith and her son-in-law, Ron Emmerson also preceded her in death.
She was a retired English and literature teacher with 30 years of service in Ravenswood Middle and Ravenswood High Schools. She had a passion for teaching and earned the respect of her peers and students who will fondly remember her grammar drills. She began her career with a teaching certificate and would spend the next 20 years of her life working, being a wife, homemaker and mother and continuing her dream of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. As time permitted, Doris would attend evening classes and summer classes at many colleges until she graduated from Fairmont State College.
Doris was a loyal and active member of the First Baptist Church of Ravenswood. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, but her most memorable experiences were in Russia.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Emmerson of Tucson, AZ; grandsons, Todd Emmerson (Sara) of Chicago, IL, and Jason Emmerson (Suzi) of Denver, CO, and great grandchildren, Lincoln, Lila and Parker, who affectionately called her Gigi.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 19, 2016, at First Baptist Church, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor Mark Gerstell officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, Mount Alto, WV. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood, WV, and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
