THE DEATH RECORD
William Smith Leffard
News of the death of William Smith Leffard, agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad company here for many years was received with sincere sorrow by his many friends. The end came Monday at 10 o'clock p.m. For several years his health had been failing but no one thought that he was so near the end of the earthly career. Monday morning, he went to the passenger station as usual, but was unable to sell tickets and complained of feeling depressed. He was asisted by Patrick Burke, and although urged to go to his home, he remained until after all the morning trains had arrived. About ten o'clock in the forenoon he was accompanied to his home on Penna. Ave. W. by a fellow employee. He walked less than a block when he collapsed and fell to the walk. He was assisted to the Weigle meat market and after resting was taken to his home in a conveyance. He remained in bed during the day and in the evening his heart suddenly failed and death was immediate.
Mr. Leffard was born in Huntingdon County, Pa., 62 years ago on the 9th day of January last. He is survived by his wife and two children, Bessie and Elmer, also two brothers and three sisters, who are John R Leffard, and Russell Leffard, both of Huntingdon County, Pa., and Mrs. Beigle, of Tyrone, Pa., and Mrs. Elizabeth Baird (sic-Laird), of Bellwood, Pa.
Thirty-seven years ago Mr. Leffard came to Warren and has since been in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company. He started as a handler of freight and was advanced gradually on account of his efficiency and careful attention to business.
Mr. Leffard wa a man generally respected and admired. he wa a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend and a good citizen. He served as a member of the Board of Education from the Fourth Ward with much credit.
Deceased was prominent in the Masonic fraternity. He was Past Eminent Commander of Knights Templar, a member of the Shrine and for many years a member of the First Presbyterian church of Warren.
The funeral will be from the home on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and the interment will be in Oakland and in charge of the Masons.
