RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT BY HARALSON LODGE Regarding the death of BENJAMIN
HUTCHINSON
To the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Brethren of Haralson Lodge:
We, the committee appointed to draft suitable resolutions in memory of Bro.Benjamin Hutchinson, deceased, submit the following:
Bro. Benjamin Hutchinson was born near Hollonville, Pike County, GA on the 12th day of December 1832 and died the 22nd day of February 1908 being nearly 75 years old. On the 5th day of August 1859 he united in marriage to Miss Camilla A. Kelly near Brooks Station, Fayette county, GA, from which union eleven children were born, nine sons and two daughters, three sons having preceded him to the spirit world. His dear wife also died several years ago. He leaves nine children, several grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his death.
In the fall of 1860 he sold his property in Pike county and bought a farm one mile west of Haralson, GA where he resided until his death. He was a soldier in the late War Between the States. He enlisted and was mustered into service at Griffin, GA in Capt. Henry Baker's Company, Co. K. 55th GA. Reg't, on the 22nd day of April 1862. He was a brave soldier, ever ready and willing to do his duty without a murmur. He was captured at Cumberland Gap Tennessee and carried to Camp Douglas, Ill., where he was kept a prisoner for 22 months. After the close of the war he returned to his family and devoted his time to his farm and the rearing and education of his children. In early manhood he connected himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and ever lived a true, unspotted chrisitan life.
Bro. Hutchinson was made a Master Mason in Erin (now Hollonville) Lodge No. 70 nearly fifty years ago. He was a Mason true and tried, acting upon the square with all mankind but especially with the brethren; but he has laid aside his working tools on earth and will answer the roll call in the Grand Lodge above, where the Grand Master of the universe presides.
Bro. Hutchinson was a true and loving husband, a kind, indulgent father, and a good citizen. The poor and needy found in him a friend and ready helper.
Therefore, be it resolved; that the death of Bro. Hutchinson, Haralson community has lost one of its honored and best citizens, Haralson Methodist Church one of its truest members and strongest supporters, and Haralson Lodge one of its oldest and staunchest advocates. That the Haralson Lodge tender the family of Bro.
Hutchinson our heartfelt sympathies in their sad bereavement. That a page of our minutes be inscribed to his memory and that the lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for 30 days. That a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family of our deceased brother, and that they be sent to the Senoia Enterprise-Gazette and The Newnan Herald and Advertiser with the request that they publish same. Respectfully submitted, D.T. Pope, R.K, Brandenburg, A.J. Baughan, Committee
