Roy "Butch" Achilles, 86, died Saturday, January 11, 2014. He was born June 8, 1927 at Inman, the son of Herman and Susana Gooson Achilles.
He was a 1948 graduate of McPherson High School, a Merchant Marine veteran during World War II and a member of Westside Baptist Church. Butch had worked in the construction business for 22 years and then retired in 1989 from Doskocil as maintenance superintendent with 17 years of service.
On December 31, 1948 he married Patricia Louise Robinson in Wellington. She survives. Other survivors include their children and spouses, Jody and Mike Schulz of Lincoln, Larry of Hutchinson and daughter-in-law Marie Achilles of Lynchburg, VA, a brother, Robert and Toni of South Hutchinson, five grandchildren: Heather and husband Andrew Jayne, Michelle and husband Mark Buchanan, Chad, Todd, and Grant Achilles; and five great grandchildren, Arec, Ean, Rylee, Ashley, and Jacob. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas and a brother Lloyd.
Cremation interment will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at North Inman Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church, 400 West 12th Avenue, Hutchinson with Pastor Tim Adrian presiding. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Westside Baptist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to Progressive Hospice or to the church in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
