Obituary for Joseph Zegers
Joseph L. Zegers, 63, of David City died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, David City with Fr. Kenneth Hoesing and Msgr. Adrian Herbek concelebrating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery (Center), rural David City.
Viewing will be Friday, from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home; and after 6pm at the church followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7pm in the church. Additional viewing will be on Saturday, from 9-10am at St. Mary's Church.
The Family has asked in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Francis Church.
Joe was born on October 12, 1945 in David City to Louis G. and Lillian M. (Novak) Zegers. He attended and graduated from Aquinas High School. He was a long time farmer and raised cattle. He also worked as a deputy sheriff for many years. He loved his grandkids and spending time with them. He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of St. Francis (Center) Catholic Church.
He married Virginia Kozisek on June 26, 1965 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Center. Three children were born to this union.
He is survived by his wife Virginia; sons; Greg (Gae) Zegers of New Bern, NC; and Dan Zegers of David City; daughter: Nancy (Jim) Thege of David City and 7 grandchildren: Cody, Brooke, Kaitlin, and Colten Thege and Greg Zegers Jr., Amber Zegers and Jessica Zegers. Also surviving Joe are his two brothers: Thomas (Judy) Zegers of David City and William (Bev) Zegers of Schuyler; four sisters: Margaret (Leroy) of Rising City, Alice Policky of Bee, Dolores (Kenneth) Cast of Beaver Crossing, and Louise (Roger) Warnsholz of Seward.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
