Rupert "Rip" Dowling, 70, passed away on January 12th in Haslet, TX, surrounded by his family. Rip was born in Durham, NC to the late MSgt Frederick J. and Jane Parker Dowling, and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He resided in Arlington, TX for 45 years, and is survived by his wife, Valerie Dian Ballard, with whom he was happily married for 41 years.

Rip worked for Industrial Catering for 25 years before going into business for himself, and after retirement, was a beloved school crossing guard for the City of Arlington. He was active within the Arlington community, and always had a friendly smile and a funny story for anyone he befriended. Rip was a shining light in the lives of his friends and family members, and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife, Valerie, Rip is survived by his children, Michelle and her husband Jayson Hill of Haslet; and Erin Nicholle Kennedy of Dallas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Parker and Connor Hill and Deven Kennedy, who were his pride and joy. Rip was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hill, who will be born to Michelle and Jayson in April. Alongside his immediate family, Rip is survived by many cousins and friends.

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. ~Irish Blessing
