"Gerry"

Age 82 of White Bear Lake, MN
Peacefully died on November 10, 2005 surrounded by family. Beloved family patriarch, survived by Eileen, his loving wife for 55 years and his children. Gerry earned a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1943, and shortly afterward attended Cornell's midshipman's school and served in the Navy as an officer at the end of World War II. Employed at 3M Company for 36 years, retired as project head of Energy Control Products. While at 3M, he and a fellow co-inventor received a patent on Scotch Tint window film, in 1966. He later oversaw the installation of Scotch Tint on the Sears Tower, Chicago, when it was still the world's tallest building. Gerry was a charter member of a committee in Little Canada that founded the City of Maplewood. He conducted the organizational meetings and was elected to the first village council in 1956. In charge of the street department, the new suburb installed over 20 miles of new roads and sewer during his six year tenure. Gerry is also attributed with starting the trend of painting water towers "sky blue." Chairman of the Board of Archbishop Murray High School from 1968-1971, Gerry was instrumental in the merger with Hill High School. He assisted Archbishop Leo Byrne in turning the first shovel of dirt at Hill-Murray's new athletic center groundbreaking. An inventor, engineer, entrepreneur, sportsman and avid reader throughout his life, in retirement Gerry continued to enjoy skiing, boating, tennis, gardening and travel, and his 13 grandchildren. Interment Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
