William C. Hartmann, Jr. was born on October 20, 1895 to his parents, William C. Sr. and Beatrice Helen McNamar Hartmann. After his mother passed away when he was only 7 years old, his father sent him to a boarding school in Hartford, Conneticut, Sisters of the Sacred Heart. When 16 years old, in 1911, he attended public school #139 in Brooklyn, New York. By 1917 he was a boarder in Martha Ann Schonschack Heft's house in Wyandotte, Michigan. It was here that he met Martha's daughter Lillian Teresa, who he married June 5, 1924. From this union 3 children were born, Beatrice Lillian, Henry J. and William C. III.

William Jr. served in the Army in WW1 in the capacity of Corporal in Company A, 305, Motor Transport Corps. He was a Dispatch Rider.

In civilian life William, Jr. was employed by General Motors Corporation. Later he was Manager for Conensite Corporation of America and Owner of a hardware store in Trenton, Michigan. Later he was a Commission Representative for the Sinclair Refining Company from which he retired after 35 years as Credit Manager. His civic duties in Plymouth were numerous. He was a life member of the Masonic Order and a member of the Kiwanis Club.

He died at age 91 on July 28, 1987, in St. Mary's Hospital, Livonia, Michigan and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, Michigan.
