Mr. Gene Adams, of 1356 Ewell Road, Slocomb, Ala., passed away Friday, May 27, 2005, at the family residence following an extended illness. He was 63.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Slocomb with the Revs. Dan Raley, Wendell Holmes and Chris Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Fadette Assembly of God Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted on contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303. Mr. Adams will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 until 9 tonight.

Mr. Adams was born on Nov. 9, 1941, in Bonifay, Fla., to the late Walter and Kathleen (Skipper) Adams. He was a member, deacon, training union teacher, chairman of the ushers, assistant Sunday school teacher and on the accounting committee at the First Baptist Church of Slocomb. He courageously fought cancer for the past 19 months. Mr. Adams began his career at Dixie Tube Company tailing a mill and then worked his way up to mill operator, then foreman, and later became the supervisor at Hedstrom Company. For the past 20 years he was manager of Dothan Tubular Products. For 45 1/2 years, he worked in the same building. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was also in the Ashford National Guard Unit. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

His parents; two brothers, Jerry and Junior Adams; and a grandson, Casey Adams, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Sarah Helen Adams of Slocomb, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jason Hatcher of Cottondale, Fla.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Allen Adams of Slocomb, Ala. and his fiancé, Amanda Barrentine of Dothan, Craig and Gloria Adams of Headland, Ala.; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Billy Ray and Diane Adams of Slocomb, Ala. and Martha Joy Adams of Slocomb, Ala.; sister, Durley Grace Williams of Dothan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hadley and Mary Hinson of Graceville, Fla.; grandchildren, Breanna and Matthew Brock Hatcher of Cottondale, Fla. and Alexis Adams of Headland, Ala.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friend and boss, Ralph Phillips of Shelby, Ohio; and a very devoted church family.
