ISLE LA MOTTE -- Anna K. Fleury, 67, a longtime resident of the Isle La Motte community and her husband George D. Fleury died tragically early Sunday in a house fire, June 27, 2004, in their Main Street home.

Born in Altoona, Penn., Oct. 3, 1936, Anna was the daughter of the late James and Josephine (Merritt) Nelson. She attended schools Pennsylvania and graduated high school in Germantown, N.Y. In 1956 she was married to George D. Fleury

In earlier years she operated the Isle La Motte Vineyard Store and in 1976 she and George built Fleury's Country Store, which Anna and her daughter Bernadette operated until 1985. She will be remembered as a talented artist and also for her great ability in making crafts of all kinds. She especially loved her two Irish Setters, Molly and Murphy who also perished with her in Sunday's fire. She faithfully served her country in the United States Air Force. On March 24, 1991, Anna successfully underwent a liver transplant operation and was always very proud that it lengthened her life an additional 13 years.

She leaves her daughter, Bernadette Fleury and her companion Jim Lee and two sons, Raymond Fleury and Richard Fleury and his fiancee Beth Dobson all of Isle La Motte; five grandchildren, Michael, Zane and John Savage and Kelly and Neil Fleury and their mother Debbie and one brother, Richard E. Nelson of Alburg. She also leaves her very dear friends, Polly and Howard Schwenker of Isle La Motte; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Melvin McConnell.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial for both Anna and George will take place Friday, July 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the chapel at St. Anne's Shrine, West Shore Road, Isle La Motte. Father Brian J. Cummings, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Fleury family lot in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Thursday, July 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Anna and George's memory may be made to the Isle La Motte Fire Department, Isle La Motte 05463, or to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans 05478.
