Clarence E. Van Ness
Clarence E. Van Ness, 86, of 1013 W. Stone Ave., died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. 1998, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The funeral service for the Jefferson County native and longtime Fairfield resident will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Van Ness was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Abingdon, the son of William Raymond and Leona Davis Van Ness. He married Helen M. Lee on June 15, 1936, in Kahoka, Mo. She died April 30, 1982.
Except for a few years in California, where he worked during World War II, he had lived and worked in Fairfield. He retired from Iowa Malleable Iron Co. in 1978 after 32 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1927. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Fulton of Farifield and Judith Thomas of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Ronald of Berea, Ohio, and Donald of Bartlett, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Van Ness of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Waldo "Pete" Van Ness; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Amerrican Heart Association , F.O.E. Lodge No. 1927, the long-term care unit of Jefferson County Hospital or Jefferson County Park.
