At St. Olaf College and author of The Movement for Indian Assimilation, 1860-1890, as well as numerous academic articles, died in Northfield, Minnesota. He was a pioneering scholar on the subject of a movement to reform U.S. Government policy toward Native Americans. Dr. Fritz chaired the Dept. of History at St. Olaf for 15 years from 1969 to 1984 and founded the American Minorities Studies Program (AMSP) there. He is preceded in death by his son Lorman Henry Fritz. He is survived by his wife and daughters. He will be missed.
