Colonel, United States Army Reserves, Retired, died on November 20, 2013 in Gig Harbor, Washington at the age of 96. He died peacefully in his sleep.

He was born January 13, 1917 in Los Angeles at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a grandson of the late William and Emily Bell Allen, early settlers in what is now Altadena and of the late Emil A. Praeger M.D. and Clara Matilda Praeger. His parents were the late Harold Earnest Allen and Cecily Praeger Allen.

David Allen lived in South Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena, before moving to Oxnard in 1959. He moved to Bellevue, Washington in 2010 and to Gig Harbor, Washington in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Morrison Allen and is survived by their three children, Charles Morrison Allen (Gig Harbor, Washington), John Harkins Allen (Tacoma, Washington) and his wife Ann Wilson and Mary Allen Szentesi (Gig Harbor, Washington) and her husband John Szentesi and five grandchildren, Johanna Tyson Allen and Dawson Carpenter Allen, and Christopher David Hazen, Jonathan Allen Hazen and Jahni Ruedinger and Elizabeth Ashley Hazen and his faithful caregiver, Emmanuel Torrato. He welcomed his first great granddaughter, Presley Allynn Hazen in September of 2013, daughter of Jonathan and Jahni.

David attended Sierra Madre Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School, Pasadena High School, and Pasadena Junior College before entering the army. He attended University of Southern California night school for many years and graduated with a degree in economics. David started his career in banking at First Trust and Savings Bank of Pasadena 1937-1941 then entered the army 1041-1947. After World War II he worked at the Bank of Sierra Madre 1947-1956, at Title Insurance and Trust Company in Los Angeles 1956-1959 and then moved to Oxnard where he joined the staff of Bank of A. Levy to start and manager a Trust Department 1959-1980. He was the Executive Vice-President of Bank of A. Levy. He was active in many banking organizations and served as President of Independent Bankers Association of Southern California and as Chairman of the Trust Division of the California Bankers Association. He was listed in Who's Who in Banking. David became interested in military affairs when he was in the Reserve Officer's Training Corps at Pasadena Junior College. He became the Cadet Commandant of the Reserve Officers Training Unit. When he was twenty-one years of age he was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserve, entered active duty with the Army in May 1942 and served at Fort Warren, Wyoming; Hunter Liggete, Fort Ord; before going overseas to Australia. He was in Australia six months, then two years on New Guinea at Port Moresby and Hollandia and Lingayen Gulf on Luzon, Philippine Islands. After overseas service where he had been commander of truck and motor maintenance companies and stevedore battalions he returned to the United States and was stationed at Camp Stoneman, California where he commanded the Personnel Center. He remained in the active Army Reserve until he was placed on the retired list in 1970.

Colonel Allen was a member of Oxnard Lodge Free & Accepted Masons; Royal Arch Lodges in Antioch and Oxnard; a Council and Commandery of Ventura and the Scottish Rite of Pasadena and Venture County. He was a member of the Oxnard Rotary Club since 1960. He and his wife were founding members of St. George's Anglican-Episcopal Church in Ventura.

David had a passion for travel and visited 50 countries during his life. He visited all states within the United States and all Canadian Provinces that touch the U.S. He and his wife Virginia enjoyed live theatre during the course of their marriage, particularly light opera.

Family and friends will be notified at a later date regarding a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity . His ashes will be interred in the family plot at San Gabriel Cemetery.
