JOHN ELMER SHORES

John Elmer Shores, 89, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 23, 2013, from the Life Care Center in Elyria. He was born in Belvidere, Tennessee, coming to Elyria in 1947.
Mr. Shores was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was employed at the Elyria Foundry as a crane operator, retiring after 44 years of service. Mr. Shores famous saying to his family was "stay close to God and work hard". He was a member of Glorious Apostolic Church in Elyria in the 1950′s. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Gary V. (Sharon) Shores of Elyria; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Mr. Shores was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Shores; daughter, Doris Henry; parents, Thomas Oliver, Sr. and Elease Shores; and brothers, Eugene Shores (who passed away on December 21, 2013), Thomas Oliver, Jr. Shores, James W. Shores and Floyd D. Shores.
Friends may call Monday, December 30, 2013 at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, from 11 A.M. until time of Service at 12 Noon. Elder Allen Gibson will officiate and Rev. Carl P. Small will co-officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
