Ruby Gregory
(October 15, 1924 - July 26, 2008)
Ruby Gregory, long-time Lesterville resident, died July 26, 2008, at the Iron County Hospital in Pilot Knob, Missouri, from stroke complications. She was 83 years old. Ruby was born near Black, Missouri, on October 15, 1924, to Homer and Allie Robinette Powers, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Ruby was united in marriage to Ralph E. Gregory on June 2, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri. Ralph died in May 2000, nine days before their 55th wedding anniversary. Their union was blessed with three children and one grandson, all of who survive. Linda K. Brooks of Lesterville; Brenda G. Parks and husband Robert J., of Lesterville; and Michael L. and Katana Gregory and son, Ryan, of Ironton, Missouri.
Ruby is also survived by three brothers, Gene (Glenda) Powers, Noel (Helen) Powers, and Donald (Veta) Powers, five sisters, Thelma (George) Walker, Lucille (Doyle) Meatheany, Helen Akins, Doris (Doug) Martin and Margaret (Curt) Penny; sister-in-law, Clydia Powers, and her cousin and friend, Lois (Jerry) Myers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Leon.
Ruby was a devout Christian, lifelong homemaker, a devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother. During her husband's military career, she lived several years in Germany and Fort Knox, Kentucky. The family moved to Lesterville, Missouri, in June 1963, upon Ralph's retirement from the U.S. Army. She remained a faithful member of the Lesterville First Baptist Church, which she joined in May of 1977, until her death. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, assisted in Vacation Bible School and served as Financial Secretary for several years.
Her greatest joys were derived from time spent with her family and serving the Lord. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, and enjoyed reading and Gospel music. Ruby was thrilled when she became a grandmother and relished every moment spent with her grandson. After years of travel, she treasured the permanence of home, and made it a loving, warm environment for her family. Her passing leaves a great void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
