He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Darlene; 2 children, a son Darrin Berdet Achterberg who resides in Fresno, and a daughter Sheri Lynn Achterberg who resides in Sacramento; his mother, Marjorie Achterberg; a brother, Jerald Albert Achterberg (and wife Deborah); sister, Shirley Patterson (and husband Howard), all from Porterville; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held at Myers Chapel in Porterville on Thursday, July 8th from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 1:00 PM at Vandalia Cemetery for all who wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the California Transplant Donor Network (www.ctdn.org or 800-55.donor), or to a "No-Kill" animal shelter of your choice.
