Alpha Mumm, age 100, of Morris, died on January 9 at the Stevens Community Medical Center.

Funeral services for Alpha Mumm were held Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church.

Alpha Nieland was born on December 22, 1898, in Rock Valley, Iowa to Charles and Mary (Mecklenburg) Nieland. Alpha was baptized on January 11, 1899, also in Rock Valley. She grew up and attended rural school in the Hancock area.

Alpha lived for a short time in Alexandria before moving to Minneapolis in 1930 where she remained until 1937.

Alpha was married to Adolph Mumm on April 18, 1937. After their marriage they made their home in Horton Township where they farmed. Alpha was confirmed on September 23, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township by Rev. C.W. Ristow.

Adolph passed away on October 15, 1959. Alpha continued to reside on the farm with her son Stanley. She moved to Morris in March of 1997 where she resided at the Plus One Home until the time of her death.

Alpha enjoyed drawing, painting, music and gardening. She also enjoyed being outdoors. She liked to collect newspaper articles concerning friends and family. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Alpha is survived by a son, Stanley Mumm of Hancock and his special friend Pat Flannery of Morris; a son-in-law, Gerald (and wife Kristie) Gades of Villard; sisters-in-law, Helen Mumm and Martha Drewes, both of Morris; grandchildren, Timothy and Jonathan Gades, both of Benson; step-grandchildren, Shawn Mortenson of Howard Lake and Trisha (husband Byron) Bartels of Starbuck; and many nieces and nephews.

Alpha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Margaret Gades; brothers, Edward, Harry, Frank, Arthur and Charlie; and sisters, Flora, Carried, Marie, Alma and Frances.

The Rev. George Sagissor III officiated at the services. Pallbearers were David Paul, Lowell Rohloff, Keith Wendt, Eilert Beyer, Dale VanZee, Lloyd Thielke and Eugene Pasche. Mary Perkins was the organist and vocalist. Burial was in Zion Cemetery in Horton Township.

Arrangements were with Pedersen Funeral Home.
