Eugene Wessells, native and long a
resident of Peekskill died suddenly at ten minutes to twelve o'clock last Friday forenoon in the garden of his home l!22 North .Montgomery street Newburg.
Mr. Wessells had been in failing health for some lime bill was about the house as usual that morning. Near noon he went to the garden and was stricken. Dr. Charles K. Townsend was summoned but Mr. Wessells died before he received medical aid.
Mr. Wessells was born in Peekskill seventy-fire years ago. the eldest child of the late Paul and Sarah Ann Denike Wessells. He was educated in Peekskill public schools and the Peekskill Military Academy.He was with his father In the bakery. Ice cream and confectionery business on South street for some years and then opened a bakery in Danbury, Conn. He amd his family lived in the Connecticut town quite a while. He then moved to Newburg where he hadlived since, He conducted a baking
business at 22 Golden street for some time. Because of ill health he sold this out and has since led a retired Mr. Wcssells was over fifty years active in Odd fellowship having been initiated in Cryptic Lodge No. 75, I. O. O. F. After he moved to Danbury he became a charter member of Progressive Dodge I. .0. (). F. of that city. Some years later it presented Mr. Wessells with a fifty year Odd Fellow Jewel.
Mr. Wessells married Annie Tillottson of Peekskill, She died some years ago so did two sons. One daughter Miss Bessie Wessells survives. Also four brothers, Frank, Samuel, Theodore, and Ernest and a sister Miss Theodora,
The funeral services were held at his home Monday morning at half past eleven. The interment was at Hillside
