Charles "Carl" Joseph Vargo, age 90 of Linden, formerly of Flint and Durand, died January 16, 2014. Carl was born January 28, 1923 in Arcadia, Pennsylvania, the son of Stephen and Anna Vargo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He married Elizabeth on October 1st, 1949 in Flint. Carl retired from AC Spark Plug, Flint, MI in 1986 with 45 years of service.
Carl was a talented craftsman. He enjoyed working in his garden and tinkering in his workshop. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty; son Steve and wife Sharon; son Rob and wife Deb; daughter Kathy; son Jim and wife Deb; grandchildren, Nick, Heather, Kyle, Chris, Adam, Sam, and Ellie; one brother, Bob and wife Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe, and son-in-law Matt.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr. Durand, MI 48429. Fr. Jeffrey A. Poll will be officiating with burial to follow in Yerian Cemetery, Lennon. Carl's family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m.
