Franklin - Lena Frances (Groves) Anderson, 89, died Monday at Indiana University Medical Center. A native of Tobinsport, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Nancy Groves. Burial in the Upper Cemetery at Tobinsport.

L. Frances (Groves) Anderson, 88, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin United Methodist Community of Franklin and formerly of Portage.

She was born July 9, 1911, in Tobinsport. Her parents were Thomas Joshua and Nancy Louise (Snyder) Groves. She married Louis J. Pease in 1932 and the marriage was dissolved. She then married Wayne W. Ricks several years later, and he preceded her in death. Then she married Herbert John Anderson on Oct. 26, 1985, in the Lutheran Church in Hobert. He survives. Survivors include a sister, Mary Eva Gill of Mobile, Ala.; a grandchild Kathryn Susan Anglin-Seal; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

She was a 1929 graduate of Tobinsport High School. She attended Indiana Central Busi-ness College in Indianapolis and Purdue Extension and completed her training at Indiana Univer-sity. She attended evening classes at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and completed a course in economics.

She was a substitute teacher and did proofreading for the reporter of the supreme and appellate courts. She was instrumental in setting up the school lunch program for the State of Indiana. Later she served as assistant to the mayor of Indianapolis for four years and did court reporting for the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals while working for the law firm of Jose, Poling, and McDonald.

She was assistant to Sen. Homer E. Capehart in Washington, D.C., until he was defeated. She later moved to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

When the President's Commis-sion on Price Control was created, she was asked to help organize the Insurance Department in the commission.

She volunteered at the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City and was president of the Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for a short time.

She was a member of Clayton Harris Memorial Church of Tobinsport, the Cherokee Travel Study Club in Indianapolis and the Lafayette Travel Study Club in Cannelton. She was a 50-year member of Lafayette Chapter of DAR and of Daylight Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Indianapolis, serving her chapter in several stations, including worthy matron. She was also a member of several bridge clubs and over a period of years circled the globe four times.

There will be no calling or services. Arrangements are being handled by Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin.
