John Clarke, of Finningham and Westhorpe, Suffolk, England, was born in Finningham in February, 1541-2 and baptised there on the 11th. He was the son of John and Margaret Clarke. He married Katherine Cooke at Westhorpe on October 12, 1567. They had seven children, the first four baptised at Westhorpe and the last three at Finningham, where they must have moved around 1576. John Clarke inherited lands in Westhorpe, Finningham, and Gislingham, county Suffolk, from his father. He probably gave some of the lands in Finningham and Gislingham to his brother, Thomas Clarke. John apparently lived in both Finningham and Westhorpe, but principally in Westhorpe after the death of Katherine's father. John was taxed in Finningham in 1566, and in both Finningham and Westhorpe in 1576. John died in Finningham on April 7, 1598 and was buried in the churchyard if St Bartholemew's Church in Finningham on April 8.
