ABERDEEN – Jessie Mae Reel died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born July 1, 1957, in Attala County to L.D. and Josie Rockett Anderson.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Goodman. She later joined Robbs Chapel M.B. Church,and she faithfully attended Greenwood M.B. Church and Harpole Hallelujah M.B. Church, where she served as First Lady. Her favorite song was ""Amazing Grace"" and her favorite scripture, Psalm 23.
She received her high school education from Durant Attendance Center in Durant. After graduation she attended Alcorn State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1980. After graduating from ASU, she began her career as a teacher at Pickens Elementary School in Goodman and later at Chicago Public School in Chicago. She then extended her education into the medical field, working as a certified nursing assistant at Trace Regional Hospital. She also worked at NMMC in home health and hospice until she was unable to work. She married the love of her life, the Rev. Joe D. Reel, on June 1, 1990.
She is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Joe D. Reel; three sisters, Nettie (Otis) Mc Laurin of Chicago, Helen Anderson of Rosedale and Prience (Willie) Davis of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, BT (Paula) Anderson of Memphis and Charles Anderson of Hopkinsville, Ky.; one uncle, James (Annie Lou) Anderson of Goodman; seven sisters-in law, Frances Hamilton, Joann Reel, Virginia Reel, Clara (Johnny) Griffis, Polly (Joe) Seals, Shalandor (Rev. Stan) Johnson and Clementine Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Danny (Joann) Reel and Ben (Jurldean) Reel; and a host of nieces and nephew.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Alpha and Omega Transformation of Ministry in Houston. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service time Sunday.
