Rip was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma in April 2009 and underwent a stem cell transplant. He was in remission for awhile, but the lymphoma returned. After one round of chemotherapy, he was unable to withstand any more. He slipped away peacefully from lymphoma and pneumonia at Boca Regional Hospital at 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. His wife, brother, and brother's wife were with him when he passed.
His parents preceded him in death, Irving in 1994 and Ethel in 1999. Rip is survived by his wife, Sandra of Boca Raton; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Joyce Green of Nanuet, New York; a niece and a nephew of New York; and many friends. His beloved cat, George, met him at the Rainbow Bridge where he'd patiently waited for many years. Rip's memorial service was held Thursday, January 23, at the First United Methodist Church, 9087 Glades Road, Boca Raton. His ashes will be interred at Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska.
