Dr. Dean R. Hull, age 92, long time Clarence Physician, passed away Tuesday morning, December 7, 2010, in the Clarence Care Center at Clarence.

He was born June 17, 1918, at Dallas City, IL, the son of Guy Arnold and Florence Gochenour Hull. He was first married to Enid Beal on December 27, 1941, at Monmouth, IL. She preceded him in death on December 8, 1990. He later married Ida Sparrow Showalter on June 28, 1992, in Durham, IL. She survives.

Dr. Hull is also survived by three children, Dr. Richard Hull and wife, Debbie, of Monroe City, Joyce Collins and husband, Ron, of Loveland, OH, and Judith Hull of Newburyport, MA; one step-daughter, Linda Winthers and husband, David, of West Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Richard Hull and wife, Dena, of Ellisville, Matthew Hull of Liberty, Joshua Hull and wife, Candy, of Monroe City, Katie Suddendorf and husband, Matthew, of Milford, OH, Nathan Collins of Maineville, OH, Betsy Smith and husband, Dr. John, of Rochester, NY, and Brian Collins of Alexandria, MN; four step-grandchildren, Matthew Winthers of West Chicago, IL, Jameison Smalley of Indianapolis, IN, and Kristen Lacy and husband, Jason, of Attica, IN; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-granddaughters; and one sister-in-law, Dottie Beal of Monmouth, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one step-daughter, Karen Smalley; two brothers and two sisters.

Dr. Hull was a 1935 graduate of Dallas City High School in Dallas City, IL; 1940 graduate of the University of Illinois; attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He began his medical practice in Clarence, MO, in 1952, serving the Clarence area for almost fifty years until his retirement in 2000. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarence, where he served as lay speaker and was Chairman of the Board for twenty-five years. He was also on the Clarence Care Center Board, was a past member of the Clarence Civic Club and was active in 4-H programs. Dr. Hull enjoyed working on his farm north of Clarence and especially loved the time he spent with is family. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Visitation was Friday, December 10, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence, MO. Funeral services were Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 10L:00 a.m. at the Clarence United Methodist Church in Clarence. Pastor Larry DeSpain officiated. Burial, with military rites at the graveside by the Clarence Veterans, was at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.

The family suggested memorials to the Clarence United Methodist Church, Clarence Care Center or donor's choice.
