CALCUTTA - Meghann Dawn Nign, 27 of Calcutta, passed away suddenly along with her husband, Jamie D. Nign on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, following an automobile accident. She was born in East Liverpool on May 2, 1986, a daughter to Daniel E. and Penny J. (Foster) Ludwig of Calcutta, and had lived her entire life in this area. Meghann and Jamie were married Sept. 9, 2006.

Meghann was a 2004 graduate of Beaver Local High School, a firefighter with the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department, where she had just completed the 120 hour firefighter class in November. She was an EMT for North Star Critical Care, and had just enrolled in the Nursing Program at Kent State University. Meghann also coached soccer, was a scout leader in Girl Scouts and attended Northside Community Church.

In addition to her parents, Meghann leaves behind her children, two sons: Chayse D. Nign and Brody B. Nign; two daughters: Savannah D. Nign and Payslee R. Nign all at home; three stepsons: Tyler Nign of Lima, Ohio, Kristopher Nign of Marietta, and Zachary Nign of Minerva; and a stepdaughter: McKenna Nign of Minerva; a sister: Emily Ludwig of Calcutta; her maternal grandmother: Grace Ann Foster of Calcutta; a grandson: Travis Nign of Minerva; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a sister: Amanda R. Bibbee; maternal grandfather: Lyle Foster; and her paternal grandparents: Bessie and Louis Ludwig.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes, with Pastor Larry Rose of the church officiating.

Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Calcutta Chapel.

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Columbiana Co, Ohio

James D. "Jamie" Nign, 39, and his wife, Meghann Nign, 27, both firefighters, were killed in a fatal car crash on Sunday at approximately 10:54 a.m. in Wayne Township.

According to reports, a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 31-year-old Rachel K. Lindesmith of Hanoverton was traveling east on State Route 518, when she traveled left of center and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Lindesmith and her 9-month-old son, Austin were transported to Salem Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Lindesmith was transferred to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. The highway patrol says Lindesmith was wearing a safety belt and her son was secured in a rear facing child safety seat.

The Equinox was carrying nine people, including the driver, 39-year-old James D Nign of Calcutta, and his 27 year old wife Meghann who were both killed. 11-year-old Addisyn Benzel of Minerva, who was a passenger in the Nign vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle and killed.

The report says neither of the Nigns were wearing seat belts, and no seat belt was available for Addisyn Benzel.

The highway patrol report identified the other occupants of the Nign vehicle as follows:

McKenna M. Nign, age 11, no restraint available, transported to Akron Children's Hospital.

McKayla E. Howard, age 11, no restraint available, transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton
