James Richard Lile, 83, of Bellefontaine and formerly of West Liberty, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 16, 2014, in the Mary Rutan Hospital Emergency Department.

He was born in Bellefontaine on June 27, 1930, to the late Frank V. and Abbie R. Hayes Lile. Jim also was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Lile; a sister, Phyllis Guthrie; a sister-in-law, Shirley Lile; a grandson, Eric Lile; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Anthony James Legge.

Jim is survived by his children, Richard (Rosalie) Lile of Centerville, Jimmy (Elizabeth) Lile of Denver, Mick (Roni) Lile and Phyllis (Steve) Smith, both of Bellefontaine, Tim (Staci) Lile of Centerville and Amanda (Darrin) Howard of Urbana; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Levi (Nancy) Lile of Bellefontaine; a sister, Katherine Hartzler of West Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was an auctioneer for 60-plus years in the family business, Logan Auction, following his father. Currently, two sons and a son-in-law are in the business. He also worked 30 years at Navistar before retiring in the mid-1990s.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where Pastor Jonathan Bull officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children and to a local humane society.
