AUTO HITS MILK TRUCK, KILLING ONE AND INJURING FIVE
ANTON MUSIAL CRUSHED DEAD BY STEERING WHEEL
Accident at Cross Road Where Was Cut Off by Bank

One man was killed and five others were injured in an automobile accident on the Manitowoc-Sheboygan road at Lorenz corner, near Clover early this morning when a Buick car driven by Anton Musial collided with the rear end of a heavy milk truck of Nessen Condensory at Valders.

The dead:
ANTON MUSIAL, 59, this city.

The injured:
Michael Musial, leg badly bruised.
Wenzel Zairnik (sic), cut on hand and body bruised.
Stanley Bonk, back bruised, hand cut.
Njc Kolawsky, body bruises.
Lucian Budycz, cut in head, face and body bruised.

MUSIAL'S CHEST CRUSHED
Anton Musial, who was owner and driver of the car, was probably instantly killed when the steering wheel crushed into his chest when the collision occurred. The body was brought to this city and taken to the undertaking rooms of Frazier & Shimek and will later be taken to the home on Madison street.
Zairnik (sic) had a close call from death, being thrown under the car when it dropped from an embankment of twelve feet or more. He was stunned but escaped serious injury.

HIT REAR END OF TRUCK
Musial was driving Michael Musial and three of his employees to Cleveland where Mr. Musial is building concrete bridges for the county. Mr. Budycz accompanied the party and was to return with the driver of the car. As the Musial car reached the hill this side of the Lorenz corner where a cross road runs east and west, the car slowed down for the grade to which is due the fact that all of the occupants of the car were not killed outright. A high bank hides the view of the roads from either side and just as the Musial car approached the corner the heavy truck on its round collecting milk, emerged from the west onto the road crossing. Musial was too near to escape the collision and in an effort to escape turned his car off the road to the embankment at the side.

TOOK ONLY CHANCE
Musial took the only chance possible to save his party from instant death as to have proceeded on the road would have meant to strike the heavy truck amidships with probable fatal results to all occupants of his car. He was unable to clear the truck however and the Buick car struck the rear end of it, was torn up the bank ten feet or more and then dropped down again near the road. The Musial car was not overturned, maintaining its upright position which probably saved the occupants, other than Musial, from more serious injury if not death.

DRIVER DEAD AT WHEEL
When the occupants of the Buick, all of whom except Bonk had remained in the machine, crawled from the wreck, they found Musial dead, the steering wheel having penetrated his chest. A call was sent to the city for help and the dead body of Musial was brought to the city. It was found that none of the injured was seriously hurt and later in the day Michael Musial and his employes departed for Cleveland. Mr. Budycz suffered the most injury of the five men.
The Musial car is badly wrecked, one front wheel being broken, fenders bent and broken, windshield smashed, steering wheel torn off and the top gone. When the car fell from the embankment it struck on its side, tearing the top away and Michael Musial was carried from his seat with it.
The truck came from the side road west of Highway 17 on which Musial was going and turned north on 17. "The Musial car to all appearances struck the platform extending in the rear of the truck and this impact killed the driver."

MUSIAL LONG TIME RESIDENT
Anton Musial, who met death, was 58 years of age and had been a resident of this city for many years. He was for years engaged in the saloon business on the Calumet road at the city limits. He was a native of Poland and is survived by his wife and seven children, Frank, Mrs. Leo Vnuk, John, Mrs. John Nitka, Anton Jr., Helen and Stephen.
Reports of the accident received at 7 a.m. said that the Musial car had been hit by the Northwestern limited and it was some time before authentic details of the accident could be learned.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Musial have not been made.
