Lake was the son of Bluford Burnett Bailey and Catherine "Kate" America Grim (Grimm). He married Cora Lee Foster on September 14, 1915 in Rock, WV. Lake was a farmer and carpenter and worked for the American Coal Co. They lived on Rock Shawnee Road. Lake and Cora were the parents of Orville Mason, Ralph Emerson, Lake Erie, Jr., Lowell Douglas, Lois Mae, Arthur Melvin, and Ivalee Maxine.
