Our beloved Granny is not gone. We still love you dearly.
Lillie Rossow Pate, Texas native, was born on June 5, 1917 and passed away peacefully on August 11, 2013. Although she is no longer with us, on our beautiful vast and wide Texas landscape, we know she looks down on us with all of her love. We can see it in every blooming Indian paintbrush, bluebonnet and Mexican heather and feel it in the southern gulf coast breeze that kisses our cheeks. She will be missed, but her compassionate, Texas-sized heart and selflessness will not be forgotten. We love you, Granny.
Lillie was born in Cost, Texas, as a cotton farmer's daughter. Her father was a German immigrant, and her mother, a first generation American from Austria. Our Lillie was fluent in the German language and had a very strong work ethic. Even as her health was failing, she could often be heard speaking the words: "I wish I could just go back to work. . . " She was a tiny, little lady, however always, continued to keep up with cleaning the cobwebs out of ceiling corners, washing windows (!), and taking care of the numerous plants and flowers in her yard! Lillie loved her garden!
"Mrs. Lillie" was also very active in her son Gene's, "Big G's" country/western club in Round Rock, Texas. She personally knew many of the country/western entertainers who performed at the club. She enjoyed this enormously and took great pride in her work.
Lillie Rossow Pate, 96, was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm Tuch and Annie Stahl Tuch; her sisters, Olga Kuntschik and Frieda Heinemeyer; her brother, William Tuch; and her children, Gene August Rossow, Shirley Rossow, Bill Rossow and Glen Rossow. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, August Frank Rossow and her second husband of 10 years and US Army veteran, Joe Newell Pate.
Lillie is survived by her sister, Ruth Richter; grandson, August Gene Rossow; granddaughter, Alisa Johnson; great-granddaughters, Kierstyn and Kaylinn Rossow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home with interment to follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
