Dave, 43 years old, was injured in a one-vehicle accident while driving a truckload of his flowers to a Wenatchee nursery. He died Easter Sunday surrounded by those who loved him.
Dave grew up in Sunnyside, and, as an adult, moved to the Tri-Cities. He was capable in all types of jobs from working fields to millwrighting. He settled with Westinghouse for eighteen years before being laid off in 1995. He didn't despair with his job loss, but went straight to work making his favorite hobby a wholesale nursery business: "That Bloomin' Grower." He loved the earth.
With his nursery and the support of his companion, Lisa Walden, Dave had joy and a full life. He leaves her now, as well as his son, Daniel Johnston of Kennewick; sisters, Marta Johnston of Yakima, and Debbie and Patty Johnston of Grandview; stepmother Rose Johnston of Prosser, and many extended family members and friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, Jack Johnston; mother, Dolores Schmelzer Johnston, and sister, Kathy, all of Sunnyside.
Services for the beloved, gentle gardener will be held Saturday, April 13, 1996, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, 1105 Rd. 26, N. Pasco.
