OConnor, age 85, of Cotuit, passed away peacefully at her home, January 21, 2014 with caring family members close by. Hilda was the beloved mother of Sally OConnor of South Dennis, Susan OConnor of Nashville, TN, and Robert OConnor of Boston. She is also survived by a sister, Florence Slade of NJ, a granddaughter Anne Oppenheimer of TN, several nieces and a nephew. Hilda shared her home with many dogs over her life, and she is survived by her Labrador Retriever Molly. Hilda was the daughter of the late Frank and Anne (Anderson) Hansen, and grew up in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. She graduated from Girls Latin School in 1946. Hilda lived in Squantum for many years where she raised her family with her former husband, the late James OConnor. After moving to Cotuit in 1972, she worked at the Registry of Deeds Land Court in Barnstable Village for 30 years. Hilda was an excellent cook and will be remembered for the wonderful meals she prepared for family and friends. She loved reading, antiques, her dogs and living on Cape Cod. She also enjoyed singing and was a member of Sweet Adelines for several years. In her later years, she was passionate about the humane treatment of animals. Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd., Marstons Mills. A graveside service will follow in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
