Marlow - J. W. "BILL" MATTHEWS, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 1988, in a Duncan hospital after a short illness.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Marlow Church of Christ with Wayne Price officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Matthews was born Nov. 10, 1891, in Craighead County, Arkansas. He had lived in Marlow since 1908 and was a retired farmer.
He married Lillian Mae Steele on May 18, 1916, at Marlow. She died July 11, 1988. He was also preceded in death by four children. He was a member of the Marlow Church of Christ.
Survivors include four sons, Billy G. Matthews of Abbeville, La., James Harry Matthews of Marlow, John T. Matthews of Fort Smith, Ark., and Glenn R. Matthews of Broken Arrow; five daughters, Edna Wilkinson of Marlow, Mary Helen Dungey of Huntington Beach, Calif., Juanita Clark of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Katherine George of Abilene, Texas, and Shirley Parsley of Minco; three sisters, Ruby Howard of Visalia, Calif., Lona Fincher of Marlow, and Lena Latham of Duncan; a step-sister, Inez Dunbar of Lawton; 33 grand-children; 46 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be grandsons.
