Robert was born one of four children to Burness and Martha Johnson Burns in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a graduate of LSU in electrical engineering and later became an expert on nuclear power systems. He was involved in the designing of the first space shuttle. He served as a pilot in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He had a fascinating career, traveled extensively, enjoyed playing the guitar and other musical instruments, and singing. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Wiley Burns; sister Bonnie B. Raether and husband Dick; brothers, Billy Burns and wife Barbara, Buddy Burns and wife Suzanne; step-children, Cyndy C. Gay and husband Kenneth; Mandy Barber and husband Ron, Becky C. White and husband Roger, Mark D. Clement and wife Lindie; 7 grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.
