Her family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where she received her education. There she met and married Lautchie V. Jones, the love of her life, ON December 14, 1932. No biological children were born into this union. After moving to Oakland, California in 1937, she took many girls into her home and treated them as her daughters. Mattie was affectionately know as MAMA JONES by everyone.
Mattie Jones united with the Parks Chapel A.M.E. Church of Oakland, California. She was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending, She was one of the mothers of the church. Mattie had a great love for God, life, people and places. She considered each day of her 108 years a gift from god.
The Lord dispatched an angel of Mercy on Monday night January 13, 2014 to take her to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by Lautchie Jones, husband, Irene Bland, god-daughter and Trina Wafer, god-granddaughter.
She leaves to cherish her memory goddaughters, Ms. Robbie Anderson and Mrs. Tululah Scot of Oakland, California; two god-grand children, Leonard Kevin Jackson and Arnetta Jackson of Fairfield, California, Other relatives, friends and her Parks Chapel Church Family.
