Ralph was born September 20, 1919 in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Albert and Adele (Hormann) Pleuss. He was born again of water and the Holy Spirit by baptism on October 26, 1919. Ralph attended Shady Side School, which has since been moved to the Pinecrest Historical Village. He was confirmed on May 28, 1933. Ralph graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1937 and then from Manitowoc Business College. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1987.

Ralph worked at Kaufman Mfg. Co. of Manitowoc for three years, then at Farm Credit of Green Bay for seven years, before operating his wife's family farm near English Lake until he retired. He was a life-long member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on its church council and school board.

He received the Manitowoc County "Farmer of the Year" award and was on the board of directors of the Manitowoc Milk Producers Association, the Citizens State Bank and the Lakefield Telephone Company. Ralph was also a clerk for the Town of Newton and on its Zoning Board of Appeals. He was an avid skat and sheepshead card player.

During his retirement years he took up golf, volunteered as a teacher-naturalist at Woodland Dunes of Two Rivers, became an income tax preparer for senior citizens, measured trees for the Big Tree Society of WI, and was a member of the WELS Builders for Christ.
