Dale E. Andres, 77, a lifelong resident of Nescopeck, passed away Jan. 23, 2014, at Millville Health Center, after losing his battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Berwick, and was the only child of Dale C. and Mary Hoag Andres.

Dale graduated from Nescopeck High School in the Class of 1954, then went on to Penn State where he earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1956.

He was a former owner of Andres Greenhouses until it sold in 1973. He also spent many years as a independent truck owner-operator as well as a driver for several other local companies, retiring from Matthews Fuel Service in 2006 at age 70.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Nescopeck, where he served several terms on the Board of Trustees. He also was a life member of the Nescopeck Fire Company where he served as fire chief for many years, as well as serving as a driver for the Nescopeck Ambulance Association. Dale also was a member of the Hazleton Corvette Club for over 11 years where at one time he served as Vice President and car show chairman. He was an honorary member of the Classic Glass Corvette Club of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and was a proud member of the National Corvette Museum, which he visited several times. Along with his wife, he loved going to car shows; had a love for Corvettes and he enjoyed attending NASCAR races, as well as watching them on TV. He and his wife enjoyed many trips together, as well as trips with their Corvette Clubs.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, the former Judith Whitmire of Nescopeck, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15; a daughter, Lesley Betz, and granddaughter, Bailey Waltman, of Berwick. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Berwick Hospital Behavioral Unit and the Millville Health and Rehabilitation Center for their professional and compassionate care.

A funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. Craig Gommer, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street. Visitation for friends will be Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Dale's memory to the Wesley United Methodist Church of Nescopeck, 401 Broad St., Nescopeck, PA 18635.
