Al was born on April 6, 1921, in Turtle Creek, Pa., to Dominick and Julia (De Paulo) Gasper. He married Mary Maneno on Feb. 8, 1942, in Pekin, Ill.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son-in-law, Jerry Antonini and two brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; one son, Dominick (Pamela) Gasper; one daughter, Sharon Antonini; two grandchildren, Dr. Jerry Antonini and Jennifer Antonini and one brother, James Gasper.
Al was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was Superintendent of Streets and Sanitation for the City of Pekin for 31 years, retiring in 1983. Al was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and had served on its church council. He was past master of Masonic Lodge 29, AF&AM, and a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria Mohammed Temple Shrine, William Schafer American Legion Post 44, Pekin Kiwanis and Elks Lodge 1271, where he was a former trustee and served on the Stag committee. He was a former board member of the Pekin Boys Club and Pekin Housing Authority and served as Pekin Township Clerk for several years. He was named Grand Marshall of the Marigold Festival in 2000. Al loved to cook and volunteered for many years at the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and his church. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Cremation will be accorded, with private burial in Glendale Memorial Gardens at a later date. There will be no visitation. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
