Charles Woodall, Our beloved, Dad and Papal, died on December 31, 2013, at his home at the age of 75.
He was born on July 18, 1938, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to the late Charley and Beatrice (Ratliff) Woodall. Charles was a hard worker with starting work at the age of 14 til the day he passed. He worked at Bohn Aluminum for over 33 years, with also holding the Union Stewart position and retiring in 1995. Charles tended the City of South Haven's Bridge for the past six seasons with a wave and smile for everyone passing by or a bowl of candy ready for the kids.
Charles loved to be outdoors on the farm or on the go. He was either tending the animals, gardening, hunting, or going off road riding anything that moved. Charles loved to fish whether it be teaching his grand kids or a trip to Missouri with his long time friend Gene Decker. Charles loved to take trips back to Tennessee to travel through the hills 'n' hollers to visit family. "Papal" loved his "Boys" even if they were his granddaughters. Charles had a large family that he always kept track of. You would always see him at the ball fields or at the schools watching his grand kids and "extended" grand kids that knew him as Papal. Charles loved his family, he was not only a grandfather to some of his grand kids, but also a father figure to many. Charles touched a lot of hearts in this town and will be missed dearly.
Charles is proceeded in death by his parents, granddaughters - Kristina & Alicia Woodall; and great-grandson, Antonio Woodall.
Charles is survived by his children - Danny E Woodall of Utica, Mich., Deborah Poole (Dennis) of Holland, Mich., Timothy (Karin) Woodall, Joan Gilliland (John), Charles Woodall Jr., of South Haven, Mich., Chris (Kari) Woodall and Danny (Brenda) Woodall, of South Haven, Mich.; his grandchildren - Matthew (Jessica), David (Becca), Michael, and Nicholas Mercado, Karrie, Timothy, Jason, Jessica (Matt), Erik (Danielle) Woodall. Brenda (Jeff) Bowman, Tabitha (Josh) Gallegos, and Jennifer Gilliland; over twenty-six great-grandchildren; and many more "grandchildren" in the area that loved him as their own Papal.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 5 from 6-8 p.m., services will be on Monday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m., both held at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with Pastors John Schneider and Eric Jarvis officiating. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shore.
