Theresa De Bruin, daughter of Jessie and John DeBruin, was born in Zurich, Holland February 22, 1861. She came to the United States when she was ten years old. The family settled in Melvina where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Marion Charles Brandt of Melvina. They made their home in Melvina for several years, then lived in Sparta and their last home was on the farm on highway 16, west of Sparta.
Mrs. Brandt was a member of the Congregational church and acted as church clerk for several years. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah lodge of which she was a faithful and active member.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister and three brothers, the last brother to die being the late, Dr. Fred De Bruin of Sparta.
Her surviving relatives are her husband M. C. Brandt, her two nieces, daughters of Dr. Fred De Bruin, Mrs. Robert Weekerly (Florence) of Belleville, Wis., and Miss Alice De Bruin of Milwaukee, and the following cousins and their families: Mrs. Anna Gray, Mrs. Tunis De Young, and William Vanderschaaf, all of Chicago; Rufus Vanderschaaf of Washington D. C., Charles and Fred Vanderschaaf of Sparta, and Mrs. Jessie Robyn of Oglevie, Minn."
