He was born July 16, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of John and Thelma (Templin) Edgar.
He received his education in Davenport, Iowa.
In 1952, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Salem until 1955. He would later serve in the reserves until 1960.
He married the former June M. Luce, Nov. 28, 1954, in Malden, Mass.
In 1965, they moved to Bennington, where he was employed at Globe Union (Johnson Controls), retiring after 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Mount Anthony Lodge F&AM #13 of Bennington and the Shriners.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, especially old Westerns, and working on puzzles.
Survivors include his children, Janice Brewington of Seffner, Fla., Fred Edgar of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Susanna Bauman of Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Hopwood of Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, June Edgar, on Dec. 6, 2013; by two sisters, Judith Kunce and Jerry Daugherty, and a brother, Dean Strouse.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard McSherry, pastor of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
