Carl E. Brokaw, age 84, of Piqua passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014 in his residence. Born on March 22, 1929 in Piqua, Carl was the son of the late William H. and Elma G. (Pearson) Brokaw. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Mae Brucker on July 4, 1947 and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2011. Together they raised three daughters: Deborah (Jerry) Couser of Piqua; Carla (Bradley) Burton, Troy; and Beverly (Mike) Schroedel, Troy. Carl was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Jerrod (Susan) Couser, Troy; Jennifer Couser, Chicago; Emily Jo (Daniel) Sherman, Greenville, KY; Capt. Matthew Burton, Fort Bliss, TX; Erin Burton, Columbus; Karl (Paula) Schroedel, Lexington, KY; Gretchen (Greg) Price, Richmond, KY; and eight great grandchildren: Julia and Jude Couser, Felicity and Liza Price, Danielle Wilson, Ian and Ava Schroedel, and Daniel Sherman, III. In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a daughter, Melody Jean Brokaw and two sisters. Carl was a 1947 graduate of Staunton High School and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Piqua. He was a lifelong farmer, which he loved. After retirement, he and Peggy enjoyed camping, and spent many winters in Florida. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, OH with Reverend Jason Egbert of the Lostcreek United Church of Christ, Casstown, presiding. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday in the funeral home.
