Pete Billick, age 80, of Miller Beach, IN passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, MaryAnn (Gasper); his children: Lawrence Peter (Denise) Billick of Crown Point, IN, Deborah (Gregory) Ashcraft of Lake Station, IN, Carolyn (David) Hamm of Lowell, IN, and Sandra (ex husband
Jamie) Caylor of Hobart, IN; grandchildren: Eric and Nicole Billick, Brittany and L.Cpl. Scott Ashcraft, Michael and Kyle Hamm; sisters: Phyllis Sabotta and Brenda Huerter; brother, Vern Billick; uncle, Steve Billick; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pete was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and the University of Notre Dame, class of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army before going on to pursue his Master's Degree at Purdue University. Pete was known to many as "Coach", teacher, mentor, and friend at Andrean High School for 30 years, where he taught Industrial Arts and was a Track and Football Coach for 19 years. He was selected as a coach for the 1976 Indiana North/South all-star Football game. Pete enjoyed attending Notre Dame and Andrean football games, White Sox baseball, pinochle, camping, and building projects. Above all, he loved his wife, MaryAnn, children, and grandchildren. Pete had a kind heart and was a great husband and father. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam, Lake Station with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Friends are invited to meet with Pete's family on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, and on Friday from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. at the church.
