SO MANY MYSTERIES........
I do research on Martha, who is my Great Grand Aunt, my Great Grandfather's sister. There are so many unanswered questions I have about Aunt Martha. When Martha was about 17yrs old she and her parents moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin because they had lost their property in Westfield Wisconsin. In 1891 when she was 20, we found a marriage cert where she had married a shoemaker in Milwaukee named Herbert Wheeler, then another marriage cert where she had married again to a meat inspector in Milwaukee named William Miller. Her last husband was Thomas Johnson who I have not found a marriage document for as of yet, although I have reason to believe they were married in 1900. I cannot find the 1900 or the 1910 census for her. On the 1920 census her and her husband Thomas Johnson are found living in Chicago with a young man named Alva Brown who is listed only as a boarder. On May 6th, 1927 her husband Thomas commits suicide by cutting his own throat! On the 1930 census Martha and Alva Brown are still living together in Chicago, but this time Alva Brown is listed as her Nephew. On May 28th, 1938 Martha dies from health issues, and Alva and her were still living together at the time, in fact Alva Brown was the informant on her death cert. I have no idea why she was married at least 3 times that we know of, but yet no indication of any children? And I have no idea if Alva was really her nephew, as I cannot find a connection where he would be her biological nephew. I have not found any death information on her second husband William Miller. Martha was buried next to Alva brown's family in Chicago, and when Alva died he too was buried in the same family plot. Why was she buried there? Were they really related, or was she just a friend of the Brown family? And why was she married 3 different times, but no children?
