Marilyn C. Maples, age 84 died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Holy Family Memorial Hospital. Marilyn was born on November 27, 1929, daughter of the late Christine (Zagrodnik) and Edwin Ploederl. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, where she was a cheerleader and the Ace of Aces with the class of 1948.

On July 24, 1948 she married James J. Maples of Manitowoc. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish (St. Andrew). Marilyn worked first as a legal secretary for attorney Dudley Emmert and later in the office of Schmaltz & Stephani CPAs for 25 years. She also did the payroll at Vinton Construction Company for 20 years. She was a member of the Catholic Junior League and St. Andrew Choir. Marilyn was a loyal volunteer of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center's Human Resources Department and Pathology Laboratory for many years. Marilyn received Holy Family Memorial's prestigious Prism Award. Marilyn and Jim enjoyed traveling, visiting their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, James J. Maples, Manitowoc, three children:Dianne C. Hollenbeck (Dr. Kevin) of Portage, MI, Michael J. Maples (Mary) of Manitowoc and Dr. William J. Maples (Mary Ellen) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; seven grandchildren: Dr. Jessica J. Hollenbeck (Wesley Porter), Carmel, IN, Kate M. H. Kilberg (Jamie), Portland, OR, Kristin Maples-Lamers (Richard), Julie M. Maples, and Jeff M. Maples of Manitowoc, Dr. Andrew W. Maples (Dr. Lindsay) and Dr. Brian W. Maples (Alex) of Jacksonville, FL; eight great-grandchildren, James and Elena Porter, Joseph and Nathaniel Kilberg, Madison, Megan and Michael Lamers and Marjorie Grace Maples; one aunt Alice Duruz and one sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Norbert Vogt of Manitowoc, two sister-in-laws Judy Mason, Huntington Beach, CA and Joan (Maples) Bissing, Auburn, CA, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary (Connie) Maples, Sheboygan Falls. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents Christine and Edwin Ploederl, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and Stanley Maples, and one brother-in-law, Roger Maples.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand--1416 Grand Avenue. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 PM led by Deacon Alan Boeldt.

The visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand--1416 Grand Avenue from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marilyn's name.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to recognize Dr. Cedric Thayer, Aurora Hospital, and the Mayo Clinic Florida for their valiant efforts to help Marilyn over many years. The family would also like to thank the responding paramedic staff, the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and 5th floor at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for their professional dedication as well as their compassion and care shown to the Maples' family. A very special thank you to Chris for her patience, care and understanding. And most of all our thanks to Marilyn's granddaughter Julie who played a very special role in taking care of her.
