Attended District 16 and graduated from Wood River High School in 1931. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and returned to Wood River to farm for six years before enrolling in Creighton University School of Law. After graduation there he worked for the U.S. Government.

He was married in June of 1940 to Mildred Brady. They lived in Omaha. There he worked for J.C. Penny Company and Crocker Claims Service. HE became a special investigator for the Civil Service Commission, the War Assets Administration and the Internal Revenue Service. His work for these agencies would take him to St. Paul, MN, New Orleans, Kansas City and Chicago. In 1948 he opened a law office in Grand Island, which he maintained until retiring in 1980.

He served as Mayor of Grand Island from April 1956 to April 1957, was an appeals agent for the National Selective Service System in Hall county for 15 years, and served as Hall county Justice of the Peace from December 1960 to December 1970.

He was active in the Grand Island Taxpayers Association, Concerned Catholics, Kiwanis, the United Commercial Travelers, the Knights of Columbus, Nebraska State Bar Association and the Hall County Bar association. He was a regular contributor of letters to the editor of the Grand Island Daily Independent and other newspapers on subjects of government taxation and religion.
